Huge list of questions, first part...

Hi all,

Here is the first part of my answers to the huge list Kevin from Zogdog sent to me. The others will be avaible soon.

See ya !

1. In the ON video it show a red screen with the ON brain and arrows pointing to the GameCube and a box with a question mark in it. Whats does this screen mean?

=> It is a reference to a relation between the "ON" and Nintendo Game Cube. I'll tell you everything : the "ON" will be compatible with Nintendo ame Cube.

2. If someone has poor vision like say a bad eye will they have any problems using the ON Visor? For example, if someone can not watch a 3D Stereoscopic movie like the ones where you have those paper glasses with red and blue lens will they have a problem using the Visor?

=> If you have read what i said before, games can be play with or without the ON.

3. Will DVD Movie playback be supported out of the box? Will it work in the ON Visor?

=> This is not definitive yet, but it should be outside the box. Compatility with the ON is on the way.

4. You mention a Mario MMORPG but have not given any details about it. Can you give us some details?

=> In a few time for sure, but not before about a month.

5. You said the Revolution might be called "MS" what does that stand for?

=> Let us say that the final name of Revolution is a very sensitive subject, so i give you some clues but not the whole thing. You'll know at the beginnong of 2006, believe me.

6. How much money has Nintendo spent for Research and Development of the ON?

=> I don't know how much exactly, but a nice amount of money ;-) For sure.

7. What can you say about this mysterious ON video which supposely showed up the same day the Revolution was unveiled at E3? http://www.sendover.com/RFBN-2I-GVQ9 what about this one? http://www.youtube.com/watch.php?v=iHbheJlmdjI

=> The second video is a fake. But the first one is absolutely real. Why, will you ask ? I'll give you an argument that nobody gave to my knowledge. If you carefully look at the video, you'll see that the video is projected on a screen. This video has been captured during the presentation of the whole Revolution System to very few developpers and IGN, on the day Revolution has been shown to public at E3.

8. Who worked with Nintendo to develope the ON?

=> I really cannot tell you. You'll know on May 9th.

9. How come developers seem not to be aware of the ON? You would think there would be a lot more comotion with something like that being the key to Revolution. Even if there is NDA's.

=> I don't really understand the question, but as i told in a previous answer, the ON has been shown to very few developers.

10. How come the dates in the Nintendo ON video for the past Nintendo systems are set as the European launch dates? You would think they would be listed as the American launch dates for the systems.

=> You know, i don't really care about these details. Only fans can see it !

11. In the ON video it says "Make Games" how does this function work?

=> Making games will be a great function of Nintendo Revolution. Let us say briefly that some games will allow to create your own environment, characters...very easily, and then play in it. Nothing very sophisticated, but you can make a great game if you are very imaginative.

12. On the front of the Revolution is a slot cover. Whats in there?

=> What do you want it to be ???

13. About 5 minutes and 16 seconds into the ON video on the Visor itself on the top piece that goes over your head you can see two little black dots. Is this for recharging the Visor with the Brain unit?

=> Yes, i can confirm it.

14. Have you used the ON and on the whole what are your impressions of the Revolution?

=> I used the ON, of course ! My impressions are really excellent : it changed my view of games, forever i think (but who knows ?). Honeslty, i did not think five years ago that such a system would be created nowdays. This is really impressive. Some very good technological tricks allow to have a very effective technology for a moderate price.

15. Visors have often times been considered bad for gaming due to getting headaches a lot. Is this the case with the ON? What kind of internal display does the ON use (LCD, OLED, ETC)?

=> As i said in a previous post, this is one of the points that i really can't answer to. But i can tell you that you will have no headaches ;-)

16. Is Nintendo developing a new version of the Power Glove?

=> Absolutely not at the moment, but why not in a few years...

17. What is the blue light on the console for?

=> For esthetic purpose.

18. What country are you in and is English a primary or secondary language for?

=> Wow, it's not really easy ! I was born in France, but i lived half of my life in the USA. Now i share my time between USA, Europe and Japan.

19. Is there a microphone for the controller or just the Visor?

=> There will be a microphone for the controller, for people who do not have the ON.

20. Reading through some of the past interviews and such with Pablo Belmonte I noticed that his Triangle character symbol is the same ones that where used in the ON video. He seems to be quite sure that he created the ON video. I posted his interviews on my blog. Several Pablo related article are on the front page on my blog. Anything you would like to say about this strong evidence that tends to lean in Pablo's favor?

=> This is not a simple story. But Pablo is implied in the ON video, not in the way he claims however.

21. How long has the Visor technology been in development?

=> Since the Virtual Boy in fact... About some months later.

22. Is Pablo Belmonte part of Nintendo's Viral Marketing campaign and if so how did they set everything up?

=> Yes, as i answered some lines before. Details will come up later.

23. Don't know if you would know this one or not but can't hurt to ask. Reggie is suppose to give a speech at D.I.C.E in February. Do you know if any information about the Revolution will be given there and if so what? Also Valve is suppose give a speech there as well. Is it Revolution related?

=> Yes, Reggie will give informations on Revolution. The most important will be the definitive name of the system, and some game titles for sure. Valve will talk about Revolution too, but not only.

24. Rumor has it that Nintendo could be using "Displacement Mapping" "Cube Mapping" "Parallax Mapping" and "NURBS" as ways to produce amazing graphics on weaker hardware. Is any of this true?

=> Some of these effects are used in order to have a powerful system with low-coast technology. Nintendo wanted to optimize graphics-rendering rather than proposing a system with lots of RAM and stuff. This is a more reasonable approach.

25. Is Emagin or etrafficjams working with Nintendo? Or anyone else? List who if you know any.

=> emagin has been implied in some steps of the ON development.

26. Is Nintendo going to try and market the Visor as sorta like a seperate system? What I mean is will it be seperated from the main Revolution which was shown at E3 and then you can purchase the Visor as an addon for those who are interested. Is this what Nintendo is going to do?

=> As i told on my blog, the ON will be an add-on. You don't need it to play Revolution games, but this is so good...

27. What can you say about this weird pic: http://img296.imageshack.us/img296/9396/25338415os.jpg Is this pic real or fake? This was a pic that you showed a lot of interest for on the ZogDog forums. Why?

=> I showed interest for it because there are some real elements in it. In particular, this was very close to a beta-dashboard. But there are other fake elements. Strange picture from my point of view...Mostly fake.

28. How many games will be available for the backwards compatable feature?

=> About one or two hundred at the launch, but the list should grow with the months.

29. Can you discuss the menu system for the Revolution?

=> I think you're talking about the dashboard, right ? It's very intuitive, even for non-gamers. You have to choose between different options, including : play a "virtual-console" game, play a Revolution game, download a game, or play using nintendo Wifi connection. Some settings like clock and so on are avaible, of course.

When can we expect you to answer the rest? I'm not trying to push you or get you to rush through the questions, I'm just really eager.

Do you think you can finish them by tonight? Kevin said there were about 50 questions and you've answered 3/5 of them already.

how are 3rd parties supposed to make games avaliable for launch if they have not been shown all of the revolution/on capabilities???, or can games just be programmed like regular games, and the on... makes it... stereoscopic... and stuff??

At 4:59 PM, Blogger Biggiesized said...

Remember a couple of things:

1) Revolution/MS/Whatever probably won't be launched until the FALL

2) Revolution games are supposed to be easier to develop than their multi-platform counterparts.

3) Kits are probably going out soon.

Sorry dude

The part when you say this is fake:

"7. What can you say about this mysterious ON video which supposedly showed up the same day the Revolution was unveiled at E3? http://www.sendover.com/RFBN-2I-GVQ9

=> The first one is absolutely real. Why, will you ask ? I'll give you an argument that nobody gave to my knowledge. If you carefully look at the video, you'll see that the video is projected on a screen. This video has been captured during the presentation of the whole Revolution System to very few developers and IGN, on the day Revolution has been shown to public at E3."

Well, I can debunk you than this video was never shown to developers at E3, you know why? Because Pablo Belmonte did it, almost the same way like he did his Mario Universe fake http://web.tiscali.it/playit/download/mariouniverse.html

I have even saw the movie with the background being rendered with wire frames, showing that it wasn't real.

When I find that movie (the wire-frame one) I'll show it to you, but until then... I call this blogger a fake, but he have very nice statements.

Too bad

At 10:17 PM, Blogger n5_dev said...

What you say makes me smile :-) If you begin to believe everything on Pablo...

At 1:06 AM, Blogger Stomped said...

Yeah, believe...
Show me proofs, concrete ones.
Is the real ON different than the ON from the fake video? Or you still tell us than it is a viral marketing?

I don't think it is, it was already debunked various times, and I visit regularly the site when all this Nintendo ON originated :gamerah.com. They are very popular for past spoofs at Nintendo, high quality ones, like the Yamauchi interview.

But anyway.. I'll still play this mumbo jumbo for a while, it's quite entertaining.

So, what batteries do you need to put to the Visor add-on?
What is the batteries life?
Do you work for Ubisoft like the folks at No End Soon?
Or you just figured that out reading the commentaries from that blog?
Will the storage disc medium for Revolution end up like a standard DVD?

Yes. And i'm japanese too...

Smell fishy...

I work between Europe, USA and Japan, but mostly Japan. That's why i said this. Now if you think i'm a liar, please do.

hey n5_dev! I have a question. Ok, in the "On" video...it shows ear buds attached, but 4 of them(2 on either side) and says "Surround Sound". Does the "On" in fact have surround sound like shown? Cause I know how wicked awesome surround sound is in games :-).

And of course i love the blog!

At 6:15 AM, Blogger Stomped said...

Well, you made some relevant points with the speculation of the controller, and some of you posts makes sense. But I still doubt about the "On".. Maybe Belmonte DID guess right when he made that mock-up, but I don't think he is part of some viral marketing like you said...
It really doesn't fit after I did my research about that guy.

Are you able to tell more about the Revo when Reggie make his speech at D.I.C.E?

At 10:39 AM, Blogger ashpool said...

ok.

So, i really hope that what you are presenting is in fact true. I'm rereading "Idoru" right now, have you ever read it?

Anyway, a couple of questions for you:

1)Will you be able to "feel" in this virtual environment via the controller?

2)I'm not clear, is the "non-brain" system set to work with the new controller? It seems like you are suggesting that you would need the "brain" to relay signal for it.

3)No end soon - Is their blog real, or marketing?

4)Are you working as a viral marketer?

bye bye

blogging he confirmed that the NES screen shots going around are real so i would be safe to assume that their blog is real if they are the only ones who have announced this game.

At 5:37 AM, Blogger ashpool said...

@c3

Yeah, he also identified them as a Ubisoft company BEFORE the video came out. Which is why i'm taking him somewhat seriously. Though, doesn't mean that both blogs aren't marketing tools, which if they are, are doing an excellent job.

When are you gonna give details on the next mario platform game?

but i'm thinkin' since it's the holidays the other questions will come next week. But hey...that's fine with me :-).

oh and kevin...awesome questions that you're sendin' him. Most of mine have been answered cause of you :-).

Well I can't mention all things he said but I will talk about what he has said on his blog and on ZogDog. He originally said that the Revolution controller would be a 2 part controller with one part for movement and one for aiming like in a first person shooter. He also said it has pressure sensitive buttons. He said this stuff well before the Revmote was unveiled at TGS. Now there where mockup other two part controllers and he could have been referring to those but theres not enough evidence to support either side.

His next one was that he said that Zelda: Twilight Princess would support the Revmote and recently that has been confirmed by NGC magazine. Coincidence or something more?

N5_Dev is an easy going person that doesn't chat like any normal Revolution fan. When I chatted with him I looked for things that would give him away. I didn't really find anything. However the next time I chat with N5_Dev I have a few "Tests" for him which will confirm if he's real or not. These test are simple and have nothing to do with Revolution or his job at all. Overall his English seems to be of a European style but then again I hardly talk to people from diferent countries. He came accross as a general 'nice person' which helped add to his overall character. I would like to chat with him as soon as possible. Hopefully sometime this week or next week I will have the chance.

He says that information will be given in the beginning of 2006 such as the final name. This was before Reggie was confirmed to speak at the D.I.C.E event. He also says there we will not only get the name but that he is almost certain that Valve will speak about the Revolution. So look for N5_Dev's fake or not confirmation in early February. I notice him poking around on the ZogDog forums a lot but never chatting. Don't know if he's on the forums or my blog and it makes me wonder if he is part of a Viral Marketing campaign from Nintendo.

hmmm...some interesting points and a very good summary for those who don't keep up. I think all of that i've heard before...because i read single post & commment on both this blog and yours (ZogDog). Thought maybe something was new. and there was! Being a nice person...and how you have a simple "test". Definitely looking forward to the results and of course any new stuff/links you get.

and btw i have the same username here as on your site ;-), keep up the good work, both of you!(n5_dev & kevin)

If you are who you say you are. Then post some pictures of the controller, not ones that have already been shown. New ones taken from your home. They do not have to be that virtual reality thing. Then I will believe you.

N5_Dev, when is the next time I can expect you on messenger? I have a test I want to administer to you but I can only do it on messenger. It's a simple test and you don't have to reveal anything under NDA. In fact it's not even Nintendo related. Still I can only do it on messenger. I will publish the results on my blog and you can copy it to your blog if you like as well. I noticed that your on the computer a lot but you have not come online since about a week. Please come on as soon as you can. Thanks!

I'll be on Messenger this week, Kevin ;-) But what is that test you're talking about ? Please explain before, thanks.

I wish everyone a merry Christmas, and happy holidays to you in particular Kevin, thanks for your support and friendship :-)

A little Christmas present : one of the three most probable final names for Revolution is : Nintendo Millenium System.

See ya !

Unfortunately I can not unveil the Test Mr. N5 because If I do it will give you time to prepare. The test is simple and won't give away who you are, your location or anything else that you want to be kept as a secret. It's a time test. A few simple questions will be administered and you will simply just have to answer them as quickly as you can. So right when you get the questions you have to answer them as fast as possible. I know you'd like to know what exactly kind of test but don't worry. All are simple questions I promise you. In order for the test to give accurate results I can't say anything.

See You Soon and thanks,
Kevin

Nintendo Millenium System...

That sucks....
Hopefully it won't be that one..
Hey N5_DEV
Check this out:
http://theboard.zogdog.com/index.php?automodule=blog&blogid=11&

So... Do you still think that Pablo Belmonte is part of a viral marketing campaign?

I REALLY doubt it..
Please, enlight me.

At 7:32 PM, Blogger Diego_Fiestas said...

Hello, i'm new to this blog, but my question i think that is in everybodys mind, how do we know that the "ON" is real? i mean, we know the console and the controler, we all saw it, but the ON, nobody showed it... how do we know is real? thank you!

At 8:07 PM, Blogger Biggiesized said...

Well according to Belmonte, the creator of the video (to our knowledge), the technology of the ON exists presently, but he claims that the ON is just a concept he came up with.

At 6:34 PM, Blogger Biggiesized said...

Damnit where are the answers to the rest of the questions? I think you've had ample enough time to answer them. I think you're clearly a fake because you cannot come up with any believable lies to answer the rest of Kevin's list of questions.

If you don't have them answered by the end of tomorrow, you're clearly a fake.

At 7:49 PM, Blogger techietown said...

Hey, I agree that it's been taking awhile. But it's the holidays, with like family and stuff. so it makes sense that they aren't answered yet. But by the end of the week would be a reasonable time for them being released.

N5_Dev kept his promise and me and him had a nice long talk. As usual N5 was very polite and answered all of my questions. I gave him the test as well. You can see how well he did here:

Question #11 reminded me of the Elder Scrolls construction kit. It is included in ESIII: Morrowind and and updated version is to be included with ESIV: Oblivion.

I've also read about a Mario paint 3D from a blogger. Its probably not true, but it sounds like a neat idea.

http://www.blogger.com/publish-comment.do?blogID=13336739&postID=113655640703659077&r=ok

"The last secret is Mario 3D Paint. Its part of the system from the get go.
It allows users to create short 3D sequences, pictures and even 2D/3D gameplay through given but exchangable AI-routines.
Its also upgradable and compatible with Revolution games.

On a side note the Hollywood GPU will take advantage of several advanced rendering methods for modelling and skinning.

The final name will be Nintendo Intend."
